How To Get Pay Per Click Advertising To Become More Profitable

Stephen Clingman-
Web author, writer, and all around information junkie. Just ask me a question and I probably know the answer. No kidding.

As anyone who has tried their hand promoting any affiliate network or affiliate program can attest, pay per click advertising can eat you alive.

Ever since Google made their changes, it has caused the cost per click on their advertising platform to go through the roof in some instances. They came up with this idea of a “Quality Score” which is almost impossible to achieve and can take quite a bit of time and money to get there.

Here is the way it is supposed to work. You have a product you want to promote through whichever affiliate network or affiliate program you use. You create a text ad to send prospects to the sales page of that product. Next you select the keywords that are relevant to the product and place a minimum bid on each keyword or phrase. Simply click submit and you are on your way to earn fat commissions, right?

Not so fast there. First of all, if your quality score is at least a six or better your minimum bid on those killer profit pulling keywords and key phrases will be “reasonable”. If not, expect to pay out the nose. I’m not kidding.

Your landing page has to be unique. It cant be something that just promotes a product from your affiliate network or affiliate program. It can’t just be a “bridge page” that will give would be buyers access to a direct link to the product page. It can’t have the same URL as the product page. It can’t, it can’t, it cant or you will pay, pay, pay.

I have personally seen some of my minimum bids cost more that the affiliate commission I would have received if someone actually purchased the product.
How can that even make sense? It doesn’t.

So why go through all of the hassle and headache when there are quality alternatives to this nightmare. There are tools at your disposal that will take your affiliate network or affiliate program marketing to new heights. To what do I refer? Social media and some outstanding search engine alternatives.

You see, many of the most popular social networking sites today offer marketers advertising opportunities for a fraction of the cost of the big boy I discussed earlier. The other search engines do as well. Here are some examples.
Popular social networking sites and alternative but popular search engines that allow advertising for your affiliate network or affiliate program:

* Myspace.com
* Facebook.com
* Friendster.com
* MSN
* Bing
* Yahoo

I am sure you will find many more than I will list here. But as you can see, if you just use those listed above, they in themselves offer ample opportunity for aspiring internet marketers to shop around for the cheapest pay per click opportunities.

From first hand knowledge, I know that with the social networks, you can narrow down your target audience by age, interests, and demographics. Very useful for specific and popular products within your affiliate program or affiliate network and making pay per click advertising work for you.

As always, be sure and double check the terms of service and terms of use for whichever network or search engine you decide on. Most I have found are very affiliate program and affiliate network friendly.
