Avoiding MLM Success By Cold Calling People

Cold Call Definition By Wiki: “Cold calling is the process of approaching prospective customers or clients, typically via telephone, who were not expecting such an interaction. The word “cold” is used because the person receiving the call is not expecting a call or has not specifically asked to be contacted by a sales person.”

This can range from a purchased leads list or just people you have a partial attachment to. They can be your friends but generally that is considered a warm market contact since you have initial contact. Cold call is when you call someone you don’t know but have their information.

So, why do people cold call?

You will have people get phone information from social sites like facebook or like directmatches. Cold calling comes off as a plea for help and a way to do business only when other means of business has dried up. Why even do it? A very select few have succeed in cold calling and there are reasons for that.

When you call someone:

1) chances you caught them at a good time
2) number isn’t their cell phone number
3) is the customer even in the market to be sold to
4) can you trust a complete stranger on the phone
5) are you considered a telemarketer at that point
6) can you really be that rich and successful if you have to stoop to cold calling
7) is cold calling repeatable
8) what do people think when they are told “if you want to make it big you have to cold call people on a daily basis”

This list can go on and on. If you get someone who claims to make $100k a year from their business yet they have to cold call, what is the problem? It makes it that much worse when they also tell you that they have a lead generation department so that you never have to find your customers. Then why the cold calling?

I am of the belief that you don’t need to stoop to things you hate if you are successful. How can you train your employees to follow you in your footsteps if they are going to hate ever second of it. Don’t get me wrong. There are some people who love cold calling and are very successful at it. But the majority of people you will train and come across will NOT have the time and skills necessary to make it like that.

The level of success one gets from cold calling is very low. The reasons it is still around today as a way to get customers is due to shear volume. If you can get 1% of your cold calls to sign then doing 100 a day is a way to go. But can one person do this without getting down on themselves for having so much rejection thrown at them? Most will stop after the 20th “No”.

There are other ways normal people can succeed without placing themselves in that situation by generating solid MLM leads so no cold calling is necessary. More will be touched on later.
