So you have a product that you’re excited about, you bought yourself a domain, you have hosting, and an AdWords account, but you have no idea how to use AdWords or you’re upset at your recent conversions. Here are three major tips in boosting your pay per click campaign:

Choosing the right keywords

Before you start using all of the keyword tools out there, let’s apply ourselves a little. Go to the page of the actual advertiser for whatever product you are marketing and get the keywords they are optimizing for manually (with firefox, right click, view page source, look for meta tags near the top). Focus on the “Long tail keywords” that they are using, and if there aren’t many that help you, write down the keywords anyway so that you can create your own long tail keywords. You want to focus on long tail keywords so that you are driving extremely TARGETED traffic to your website, you want people in “buying mode” not “browsing mode” when they visit your product site. Long tail keywords are those 3, 4, 5+ word keywords that really target a product.

Grouping the keywords effectively

Once you have all of the keywords that you wish to use in your marketing campaign start to group all of your keywords in groups of five to fifteen keywords each. Now Create one main campaign in AdWords and sub-campaigns using the individual groups that you created based on which keyword theme they have. This allows you to create different ads to specifically target the people who would be attracted to each keyword group. You don’ t want too many keywords in one group because you want to make sure your ads represent that group of keywords as best as possible.

Creating Your Ads

Next you create your Ads. No matter what you do, DO NOT BE BORING. You want your ad title to be witty, attractive, or controversial. One ad that I personally saw and clicked on had the title “Hey BROKE guy” then had text about how they could help by clicking on their link, which lead to an income earning product. You should write about three to four ads in the beginning, so you can find out which have the most success and focus on those, but do be sure to include the keyword, or the main idea of the group of keywords in the ad copy.
